What does the Corsi block test measure?

A Corsi-style block-tapping span task. It measures how many positions you can hold in order, and how accurately you place them, rather than how fast you respond.

Headline measure: Longest correct run

Your score describes how you did on this task, on this day, at this difficulty. It is not an IQ score, a percentile or a medical measure. Read more on what the exercises measure.

How does the Corsi block test work?

Watch the cells flash, then tap them back in the same order.

  • Cells flash one at a time on the grid.
  • When the flashing stops, enter the same cells in the same order.
  • Undo removes your last entry. The sequence grows when you get a round right.

Controls

  • Tap / ClickSelect a cell
  • ↑ / ↓ / ← / → / EnterMove around the grid and select
  • BackspaceUndo the last entry

How is the Corsi block test scored?

Each set reports accuracy and longest correct run. Scores compare you with your own earlier sets, never with other people.

Where does the Corsi block test come from?

Corsi set out blocks on a board, tapped a sequence, and asked patients to tap it back. The longest sequence someone repeats correctly is their block span, the visual and spatial counterpart to remembering a phone number. The thesis was never published as a journal paper, so the original is the McGill dissertation itself.
